🔍 What does professional sharpening mean?

There's no single universal procedure for every tool. A knife is built differently, professional hairdressing scissors differently, and a clipper blade differently again. The sharpening method therefore has to be adapted to the type of tool, edge geometry, material and degree of wear.

✂️ Why is sharpening professional scissors more expensive?

Ordinary scissors usually have a simpler construction and edge geometry. Professional hairdressing and barber scissors are a precision tool in which both blades must work together correctly along the entire length of the cut. So when sharpening, it's not enough to just create a sharp edge – you need to respect the original edge profile, the blade alignment and the correct tension at the pivot.

💜 With professional hairdressing scissors, what matters in particular is:

the geometry and profile of both blades,
the type of edge – different models may use different geometry, including a convex edge,
the mutual alignment of the blades,
the correct tension at the pivot,
the material and hardness of the steel,
the construction of the specific scissor model.

Improper sharpening can change the original edge profile. That's why professional sharpening of hairdressing scissors is more demanding in terms of time and skill, and its price ranges between 550–750 CZK depending on the brand and design.

💡 Why does sharpening professional scissors cost more?

Their edges and mutual adjustment are more sensitive than those of ordinary scissors. After sharpening, both blades must remain properly aligned so the scissors cut easily, precisely and along their entire length.

⚙️ Why is sharpening clipper blades so specific?

A clipper blade doesn't work like an ordinary knife either. It cuts hair through the mutual movement of the fixed and moving parts. For a proper cut, the condition of the cutting surfaces and their correct mutual contact are therefore essential.

If the cutting surfaces are worn or damaged, the blade may start pulling, skipping or cutting less cleanly. Sharpening can restore the cutting surfaces of a suitable all-metal blade, provided its overall condition allows repair.

✂️ Important: we only sharpen all-metal clipper blades. For a heavily damaged or structurally unsuitable blade, sharpening may not be possible or economically worthwhile.

🧴 How to care for tools after sharpening?

A quality edge lasts longer if it gets the right care. With clipper blades, regular removal of hair and oiling are especially important; with scissors, cleanliness, edge protection and care of the pivot mechanism.

keep the blade clean and dry,
regularly use oil intended for clipper blades,
oil reduces friction and heating of the cutting surfaces,
for hygienic cleaning, use a product suitable for the specific blade according to the manufacturer's instructions,
wipe off excess oil after applying.

✂️ Hairdressing scissors

use them only on the material they're intended for,
don't cut paper, cardboard or plastic with professional hairdressing scissors,
keep the blades clean and dry,
regularly lubricate the pivot mechanism lightly with a suitable oil,
protect the scissors from drops and impacts,
store them safely in a case or holder.

You don't have to figure out every time where to send individual blades, scissors or a clipper. We can arrange regular sharpening of all-metal clipper blades, professional scissors and clipper service, including pickup and delivery back to you.

For practices with a larger amount of equipment, orders can be combined and handled on an ongoing basis as your operations require. The goal is for you to have working equipment and not have to keep looking for someone to repair or sharpen it.

⚠️ What we don't sharpen

We don't sharpen ceramic blades or serrated-edge blades. For scissors with micro-serrations, we do not restore the micro-serrations. For clipper blades, only all-metal blades can be sharpened. Other workshop and garden tools are deliberately no longer included in our sharpening offering.

⏱️ How long does sharpening take?

Received items are usually ready within 7 business days of our receiving them. When shipping, the carrier's transit time must be added to this. Orders received in person are not sharpened while you wait.
