WAHL Professional is a North American company founded in 1919 by Lee J. Wahl, who that same year patented the first electric hair clipper. The corporation thus became the leader in professional and home hair care in its category.
In 1967 the company introduced the first cordless rechargeable clipper and in 1971 brought it to market, instantly capturing over 90% of the North American clipper market. In 1987 the company invented the first curling iron and also began manufacturing various types of hair dryers. In 1996 WAHL acquired the German clipper manufacturers MOSER and ERMILA, becoming the largest clipper manufacturer in the world.
