And don't forget your feet — beautiful feet are a must in summer.

When you hear the word pedicure, many of us picture nicely painted and groomed toenails. However, a pedicure is a comprehensive treatment of the entire foot, and often it's care you'd expect from a doctor rather than a nail technician. Professional pedicure requires specialized training (or courses) that enable a pedicurist to truly help and even treat. Like a doctor, they work with a scalpel, disinfectants, and tools that demand precision and skill. People also visit a pedicurist when they simply don't have the nerves for cutting their own nails or suffer from ingrown toenails.

Why get regular foot care?

A pedicure focuses on nails and hard, calloused skin, which is gradually removed with a scalpel. The client feels nothing during this process. It's about pressed skin that seems to be "extra." Poor footwear or, on the contrary, walking barefoot can cause the skin on heels to become pressed, crack, and hurt. Before removing this skin, the feet are soaked in warm water. After cleaning the feet, we can proceed to nail care.

Don't neglect hygiene

We described how to properly cut nails in our previous article about nail care. But some people are simply unlucky, and despite good care, their nails still ingrow or fungus may appear underneath. In such cases, it's crucial to maintain hygiene — the nail must be disinfected, and tools must be sterilized because fungus is contagious. On our e-shop, you'll find quality products suitable for professional pedicure work that can be cleaned in a sterilizer.

A pedicurist can also handle an ingrown nail. Surgery isn't always necessary. The nail can be reinforced with a special brace that guides the growing nail so it doesn't cut into the skin. Finally, ladies can have their groomed nails polished. A proper pedicure should also typically end with a pleasant foot massage.

A professional approach from your pedicurist is more than warranted

Clients suffering from diabetes require special attention. Due to vascular damage, even a minor wound heals very poorly. Extra caution must be taken with any injury, such as an ingrown toenail. A proper pedicurist should inquire about their client's health. If they don't, don't hesitate to inform them of your condition.

A few tips for foot and nail care

Want your smooth and soft feet to last as long as possible? It's good to get pedicures regularly, especially if you suffer from foot pain. But you can delay visits by following a few simple points:

  • For at least a few days (ideally every day) after a pedicure, moisturize your feet thoroughly — hard skin will reappear more slowly.
  • Avoid walking barefoot.
  • Don't wear tight shoes that cause pressure points. Women prone to calluses on the ball of the foot should avoid high heels.
  • Wear proper socks — yes, even a wrinkled sock can cause real pain and calluses.
  • Trim growing nails straight across with quality, sharp tools.
